UNIMPROVED RATING AND REFUNDS.
I notice by the Press reports at a meeting of the One Tree Hill Borough Council recently that in response to a request from the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association it was decided to support the proposed amendment to the Rating Act in connection -with the question of the refund of half the rates on empty dwellings in cases where local bodies rated on the unimproved value. In view of the fact that the writer some years ago assisted strenuously to defeat this iniquitous method of taxation he personally resents the council assisting in any way to further the interests of such a system, as he considers if it is right to remit rates under annual or capital values it is equally just to do likewise under unimproved values.
