REASSURING STATEMENT.
BUSINESS NOW ON SECURE LINES.
PICTURES WILL BE OBTAINED
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
WELLINGTON, this day
The following statement was issued by the executive of the Motion Exhibitors' Association of Xew Zealand on Saturday:—
"The statement in Saturday's 'Dominion' purporting to be from the manager of the New Zealand Picture Corporation certainly gives a very blackview of the picture exhibiting business in this country. It is, of course, a fact that the advent of the 'talkies' caused a complete revolution in the business, and, as is always the case, after a revolution there is a period of adjustment. We are now, however, about at the end of this latter period and as regards the cities at least conditions are now stabilised and business is going along on secure and well-defined lines. "As regards the hold-up of picture supplies, that at present is not causing undue alarm. The general feeling is that a way out of the difficulty will be found very soon. Talk of bankruptcies, etc., is not justified. The advent of the 'talkies' undoubtedly sent many of the smaller exhibitors to the wall. That was foreseen, but the crash has been less severe than was anticipated, and the position can now he said to be quite a healthy one."
