Several prominent New Zealand horses were engaged at the Canterbury Park meeting yesterday, hut they met with onlv moderate success.

Paquito, who was second to Nightmarch In the- last Melbourne Cup, was the only New Zealander to win. The race he won was the September Handicap, but his victory was not as convincing as some of his supporters expected.

The Auckland-owned Hard Words was second in the First Division of the Flying Welter Handicap.

Nightmarch was third in the Canterbury Stakes, six furlongs, coming from a long way back to finish very fast. Results:—> •.
