THE SPRING MEETING.

BLACK MINT WINS BIG EVENT.

ACOEA TAKES SPRINT.

The spring meeting 0 f the Marton Jockey Club was held at Marton on Saturday. The weather was beautiful and there was a fairly good attendance. During the day the- sum of £12,029 10/ was put through the machine against £13,780 for the first day last year, when a two davs' meeting was held.

Black Mint Scores.

The nine acceptors all lined up for the Marton Handicap, Paddon ( £420) being most fancied, next in demand being the bracket Hynanua and Courageous (£266), with Marjoram (£246) also well backed. Juggle was in front when they settled down from Avro, with Marjoram, Paddon, and Orazone following 'as named. Going into the back Juggle had Marjoram as her nearest attendant, and then came Paddon, Orazone, and Black Mint. Crossing the top Marjoram was in front, and then came Juggle, Orazone, Paddon, and Black Mint. Entering the straight, Majorani was at the head, of affairs, with Orazone in close attendance, and they were followed- by Paddon, Black Mint," and Balloon. In the run to the judge Black' Mint-took "charge and won by, a length from Paddon, with. Courageous half a length away third. Mar-: joram.was fourth, and then came Hynanna, Balloon, and Orazone.

The Hunt Cup. Postman (£3.99) was. backed down to a. short price for the Hunt Cup,. for which eight started. . The most fancied of the. others were Huirangi Girl (£220) and the ' Risk-Trouble bracket (£200). Trouble led over the first fence and piloted the field past the stands, followed by. Nimblefoot, Copey, and Postman. Nimblefoot was in front at the back and led through the straight the second time from Trouble, with Copey, Risk and Huirangi Girl next. Copey was at the head of affairs at the back, but fell, and Risk was in charge crossing the top from Huirangi Girl, with Nimblefoot nest. The last-named fell at the next obstacle. As they entered the straight Risk, Senora, Huirangi Girl, and Postman were the leaders. Senora mad© a big effort in the run home, but Risk got the verdict by a length, with Huirangi Girl twelve lengths away third. Then came Trouble, Postman, and Calculation. Sky-rider's Narrow Victory.

Archeria and Calithe declined their engagements in the Tutaenui Hack Handicap; Mount Shannon (£443) carried most money, Shortly (£224) and Annoyer (£123) being also fancied- Skyrider was quickest to begin, followed by Shortly, Imateagirl and Annoyer. Going down the back Winacre, Annoyer, Skyrider and Shortly were the leaders, and then came Fiery Comet and Grand Jury. Annoyer and Skyrider were first to turn for home, followed by Shortly, Winacre and Fiery Comet. In a good finish Skyrider won by a head from Annoyer, with Shortly three-quarters of a length away. Then came Spearopa, Grand Jury and Winacre. -*

I The Railway. Ten paraded for the Railway Handicap. Most money came for Broad Acre (£327), Acora (£294) and Limosin (£174). Acora was first to show out from Blimp, Limited, Limosin and Otairi, Tenterden being, slowest to begin. Across the top Broad Acre and Acora were together in front from Limited, Limosin, Blimp and Maui. As they entered the straight Acora and Broad Acre were racing abreast, and then came Limosin, Maui and Blimp. In the run to the post Acora finished best, to win by threequarters of a length from Broad Acre, who heat Maui by a length and a half. Limosin was fourth, and then came Blimp, Historic and Veronese.

A Favourite Fails. Royal Routine (£461), Autopay (£291) and Taranto ( £283) were the public's fancy for the final event. When the field, had settled down Autopay was in front and led across the top from Royal Routine, Royal Finance and Trojan Melody, and the quartet were first into the straight. Autopay went on to win nicelv by half a length from Royal Finance, "who beat the favourite by a similar margin. Trojan Melody was fourth with Sporting Chance and Zarene next. Results: —
