MASSEY DEFEATS BOWIE. Another match was played at .Messrs. Billiards. Ltd.. showroom? tor the Auckland provincial amateur billiards title and the Billiards. Ltd.. Shield on Saturday night. The contestants -were A. Bowie, au ex-New Zealand and Auckland champion, and H. A. Mass»»y. Bowie commenced -with a good break of*4S at his second visit to the table, but after that tailed to do anything for some time. Massey soon evened up the scores by consistent seoring and a break of 24. A 22 was Bowie's next effort, which took him over the 100 mark, but Massey was only two short of 100. Then Massey. playing soundly, gained a BO lead, making a break of 20 and a fine 54, and passed" the 350 mark with another break of 32. The scores were now 20S to 114 in Massey's favour. Jlassey kept scoring consistently, and after adding breaks of 21 and 2S, gained a good lead, the scores being 351 to 135. Faced with this big deficit. Bowie made a determined efforn and strung together good all-round breaks of 51 and ."52. Massey played up to his best form and maintained his lead by replying with breaks of 21, 23 and 29. Bowie, -who was not favoured with the run of the balls, next made two breaks of 32. Massey. however, maintained his advantage and ran out the winner by 70 points. The final scores were:—H. A. Massev, 300 : breaks of 24, 20. 54, 32. 21. 28. 29, 2i3 and 23 : average. 5.3. A. Bowie. 430 ; breaks of 4S, 22, 01, 52, 32 and 24. The match to-night will be between F. J. Morrison and E. Starkey.
