VILIFYING CAMPAIGN.
Personalities in Bromley
By-Ele<sion.
CANDIDATE'S COMPLAINT.
(Received 9.30 a.m.)
LONDON, September 4,
The "Daily Telegraph" states that the result of the Bromley by-election is an encouragement to Conservatives (who won the seat) all over the country. This party is now preparing for the general election, which, according to the best informed political opinion, cannot be delayed beyond January or February. •
Mr. Redwood, the United Empire party's candidate in the by-election, asserts that a campaign of personal vilification had cost him a considerable number of votes. In the worst cases he proposes to take legal action.
The "Daily Express" says the clear deduction to be drawn from the result of the poll is that the only issue which possesses political vitality and appeal is the policy of Empire-' free trade.
