SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

The Papatoetoe branch of the Mothers' Union held its monthly meeting in St. George's Anglican Church Hall, Landscape goad, Papatoetoe, yesterday afternoon. The service was taken, by the R«v. T. H. 0. Partridge, and Mrs. Partridge was at the organ. An address was given by Nurse Saunders Jones, of St. John Ambulance, on the work of the ambulance and the ailments of children. Afternoon tea was provided by. Mesdames Winskill and P. Wyman.

An enjoyable evening was held at the home of Mrs. Lord, of Grey Lynn, on Wednesday night, in honour of. her daughter Nola's birthday. Dancing was the main item of the programme, but games were enjoyed by the guests. The reception and supper rooms were artistically decorated with streamers and •balloons. Mrs. Lord received her guests in blue marocain silk. A social was lield on Wednesday in the Gaiety Hall, Surrey Crescent, under the auspices of the Grey Lynn branch of the Reform party. Tie hall was gaily decorated, and dancing and cards were indulged in. There was a very large attendance at the monthly meeting of the .Waimauku branch of the League of Mothers on Wednesday, when the branch celebrated its third " birthday. Invitations had been given to the mothers to "bring their children, and such a large number were present it was found necessary to provide extra seating accommodation. An address on "Motherhood" was given by the president, Mr?. T. Charters, and the unveiling of the cradle roll took place. Mra. George W.ightiuan, . mother of the youngest baby on the cradle roll, cut the birthday cake. A pianoforte duet was given by Mcsdamefe' I. Levct and A. Burrell; and a very pleasant afternoon was brought to a close by the singing of "Aukl Lang Syne." The hostesses were Mesdanics J- B. Copeland, Theo.. Kcrr-Taylor and R. M. Mathcson.
