SAFEGUARDS FOR CHILDREN
The recent death of a Maori boy, « 3 the result of a fall into a hot pool Ohineinutu Village, has awakened ther interest in protective work in that , locality. On Wednesday exening W ■ Rotorua Borough Council receivers letter from the Komiti Marae, asknio that some steps be taken to make thpse.:. danger spots safe. It was suggested tjiat ■ stones be put around the smaller holes. If the council would supply the material-• the village caretaker would undertake; tho work. . .■■■, ' ' . The Mayor pointed out that many; of the dangerous hot pools were .OH private property, and by undertaking protective operations they might set/up a precedent. . . Councillors, however, were of opinion that something should be done to avertaccidents, and eventually the worKS ■■;. committee was authorised to deal tho safeguards and spend up to £5, and apply •.for further funds if necessary, j. ~
