BOXING CONTROL.

GOOD FINANCIAL YEAR. THE MATTER-OF BIG PURSES. (By Telegraph.—Special to "-Star.") WELLINGTON, this clay. The year just ended has been highly successful for the New Zealand Boxing Association, which received £1732. 7/5 and spent £505 ,15/ from , the general account and £205 in grants to associations to finance teams to the 1929 New ■Zealand championships at Grey mouth, leaving an excess of revenue "over expenditure of over £1000. Purge percentages and house percentages, as usual, were the-two main sources of revenue, the former amounting to £440 and the latter to £891 last year. The New Zealand championship pi'oiits totalled the.substantial sum'of £137, so that the' council received back more than half of what'it advanced*.tp various Associations, to enable them to be represented, though not that proportion of the total cost of running the national meeting. - ' , ■ The New Zealand Association now holds £1770 in its various., funds-,for: championships and insurance. The balance iu the overseas account is £636, that in the sfiecial amateur fund is £277, and that in the insurance fund is £596. The general fund is £260 -in credit.. Wellington heads the list .of associations, contributing to the insurance fund with £157. The Northern Association, has contributed £103, Taranaki £92, Otago £45, Napier £43 and Manawatu £31. Christchurch's total is only £17. • The assets of the New Zealand Boxing Association are £634 to credit in its current. account, £030 on deposit for various terms, £500 invested in Government securities, office fittings and furniture valued at £72 and the Morgan Cup £80, the' Jameson Belt £70 and Treston Shield £50, which are worth £200 between them. The whole question of purses is likely to receive thorough attention at the next annual meeting of the New Zealand Boxing Association, which is to be held on August 21, 22 and 23, at Palmerston North. The council of the New Zealand Association has received from Otago a remit which reads as follows:— "Li lieu of a set purso of £200 and the subsequent amendment agreed to by a special meeting held on May 28 amending same to £300, the words '75 per cent of the net profits or such other percentage as tho association in general meeting may agree upon' be substituted in the rule." Another matter to be raised concerns the payment by provincial associations to the parent body on the net proceeds of contests instead of the gross proceeds, as is the rule at present. It is likely that an alteration will be made in this procedure, concerning which a remit from a provincial association will appear on the order paper. Tho question of promoting open-air contests is also tabled for consideration, as it is • understood that the council is rather concerned at the development last year, especially in relation to the Otago Association, which staged a match between Tommy Donovan and Pete Sarron late in the year, and, in tho view of Wellington boxing men, ran a rather considerable, risk,
