ALFRESTON BBEATS MANGERE
In the A section of the Auckland Banminton Association inter-club competition, Alfriston beat Mangere on Saturday by 219 points to Mangere's 209. Each club won six hatches. Following are the details (Mangere names first) : — Men's Doubles.—L. Kay and James beat Plant and Mclnnes, 2]—ls; R. Pheasant and Knight beat Moody and Copping*. 21—17; Kay and James lost to Moody and Copping, 14—21; Pheasant and Knight beat Plant and Mclnnes, 21 —14.
Ladies' Doubles. —Miss L. and I. Pheasant lost to Mesdames R. Muir and Kirkpatrick. 14 —21; Misses Clark and Kay beat Mesdames J. Muir and Da vies, 31—14: Misses L.. and I. Pheasant lost to Mesdames Muir and Davies, IS —21; Misses Clark and Key lost to Mesdames R. Muir and Kirkpatrick; 11—21.
Combined Doubles. —Miss I. Pheasant nnd Kay beat Mrs. R. Muir nnd Plant, 21—14; Miss I/. Pheasant and .Tames lost to Mrs. 'Kirkpatriek i aad IMcTnnes, 15—i'l: ' Miss Clark and K. 'Pheasant lost to Mrs. J. MuLr and Moody. 11 —21; Miss Kay an: I Knight beat Mrs. Davles and Coppins, 21—19.
The surprise of the match , was the defeat of Kay and .Tames by All'riston's second men, Moody and Coppins, who combined well and never save the Mangere pair a chance. Although St. Andrews and PnpatoetOfi have not played their match yet', MaugerG win this group, having secured 24 games to All'riston's 21, while St. Andrews 'have only won 10 games in the two matches played.
