CAGED BIRDS.
There has been a lot said lately abput,.the caged animals in the zoo, but never a v/ord of protest about the birds kept in ca,ges-M private individuals. I think' that'.'is','one. M the worst forms of cruelty. . As I walkjJiß streets in city and suburbs of Auckland 1 see hundreds of these unfortunate little prisoners in small cages hung in the slaw** some cold, bleak verandah, with no companions of their own kind, no sunshine, no freedom and thus no criminal that ever - lived coflJft have a more miserable existence; I.wonttei? how their owners would like to be pufc'Aßiron cages and lead the same life. I have seen fine big parrots kept in cages ™_l T °f of shop doors in noisy thoroughfares. If toe owners think that brings more custom to the shops they are greatly mistaken. The animals in the Zoo can get in the sun these cold winter .days and have plenty of companions, and tW is some consolation, but not so the lonely caged bird. fl LOVER OF DUMB CREATURES.
