OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE.
PRIME MINISTER IN LONDON. MARKETING ARRANGEMENTS. MR. LEE MARTIN'S SPEECH. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Speaking on the Budget in the House of Representatives this morning, Mr. W. Lee Martin (Raglan) said there was an opportunity for the Prime Minister to render valuable service to the producers of the Dominion if, when attending the Imperial he would endeavour to arrange for the more satisfactory marketing of New Zealand butter. Experts had agreed that there was no reason why the price of our butter should have fallen so far.
Mr. Martin also urged that the problem of derating farm lands should be undertaken without delay. It would be necessary to afford some relief if the stability of the man 011 the land was to be ensured.
Mr. Martin attacked the work of the Department of Agriculture. He said he was not blaming the Minister, but lie believed the present director had outgrown his usefulness. There was need of new life in the Department.
At 12.50 p.m. the debate reached the stage at which the Prime Milliter was called on. to reply.
Oil his suggestion the House then adjourned till 2.30 p.m.
