MASSED UNISON SINGING.
Five hundred children from the Auckland city Catholic primary schools were taken by special tramcars to St. Benedict's Hall, Newton, this afternoon for a massed practice in preparation for the combined Catholic schools' concert, to be given in the Town Hall on the afteinoon of Thursday week in support of Music Week.
The children came from as far as Devonport and Mount Albert, and in all ten schools were represented. The pi'actice was organised by the Rev. Father Terry, and the massed choir was directed by the Rev. Brother Henriclc, of Sacieil Heart College, Ponsonby, with Miss N.. Ormond as accompanist.
A thousand children from the Auckland primary and secondary schools will also give concerts during Music "Week. Fifteen schools will be represented in the massed choir at the primary schools concert on Tuesday evening, August 19 —Kowhai Junior High, Edendale, Richardson Road, Birkenhead, Mount Eden, Epsom Normal, Bayfield, Richmond Road, Westmere, Newton West, Stanley Bay and Newton Central. Maungawnau, Bayfield, Kowhai and Edendale will also give displays of folk dancing.
Among the children there is a tide of enthusiasm as the music festival approaches. At the secondary schools concert on Tuesday afternoon, August 1.), a boys' choir, orchestra and band from the Auckland Grammar School will give half the programme, and the other naif will be shared by the Epsom Girls Grammar School and St. Cutlibert's College. At least 300 boys and girls will he heard that afternoon. Unison and part singing by these schools should make a memorable spectacle as well as a rare vocal feast.
