CORNERGFF JUMPS WELL.

KING'S JES-T GOES SGRA®<M?S;

(By Telegraph.—! Special to "StaiS**)'

CHRISTCHURCH, this day,

The weather Avas fine for training operations at Riecarton this morning, the sun being strongly in evidence. There was further evidence of improvement in the tracks, which now provide good going. No. 1 grass was open, and it was in decent order, though not fast, but proceedings were not very exciting, most of the horses being restricted tp useful pacing on the sand.

Full Feather covered a mile in ] ..40 4-5, Semper Para'tus accompanying him over the last six furlongs. Both liorseg went well.

Subdivision and Battle Colours sprinted half a mile up the back in ills, Pride had Greenaway as a mate in a half-mile spin in 51 2-ss.

Kapuna galloped twice round at a strong pace. He covered the last seven furlongs of the first round in 1.45 anil ran over the same ground next time ill 1.43 2-5. The Wingatui horse has got through a lot of work since his arrival at Riccarton, and ho looks well.

Radiac in Good Order, West Dome was given strong pace work'on the sand.

King's Jest did easy work oil the sand, moving in scratchy style. Mountain Guide was kept to half pace work on the sand.

Radiac went twice round the sand at a sound pace. He is in great order. Troilus ran the last four of six fur.longs in 53 l-ss.

Mister Gamp went once round, taking 1.51 for the last mile. He went very well.

Klyn Du jumped four hurdles in good style, going at; a solid pace. After Ten was held back to Gold Mint in a run over three hurdles.

Valves jumped four fences. He went at a useful pace and did liis work well,

Corncroff was sent over six fences, and gave a bold exhibition of fast jump?

Airforce went over four hurdles at a sound pace, and went well all the way. Thui'ina gave a good exhibition of jumping over two hurdles. Exide galloped seven furlongs, taking uG o-5s for the last half-mile.

Nancy Lee Well. Nancy Lee occupied 1.7 for five fur* longs, and did it well.

A number of other horses werg restricted to useful pacing.

Although Radiate was allowed to drop out of the Grand National Steeplechase lie is being kept going 011 useful work, and it is hoped that he will be a com? petitor in the Beaufort Steeplechase 011 the second day.

T. H. Gillett does not intend to school either, of his Grand National candidates, Lord Ranald and Wliarncliile, again prior to Tuesday's race. He would have welcomed an opportunity to give tlio pair some more jumping, but in view of doubts as to their soundness he prefers to take 110 unnecessary risks, and they will be allowed to take their chance next week 011 tlieir preparations, finished off with strong, work oy the ilat.

Lancer's" Defection. The withdrawal of Lancer from the Grand National Hurdles did not occasion any surprise. A splint made its appearance recently, and though the Greyspear gelding was not lame H. Nurse was unable to give him the necessary work for fear of aggravating the trouble. It is a matter for regret that Lancer will not be in the field for the big hurdle race next week as he would have been hard? to beaf; had be been all right. He will be spelled for a few months and then got ready for next winter.

..•'Matu and Omeo are booked to school in company over the steeplechase fences on the course proper to-morrow. Loth horses have done well since their-arrival at Riccarton, and thftir jumping will attract interest, as they are freely discussed Grand National candidates.

Riding Engagements. I. Til son's mounts on Tuesday will include Aberfeldy and Star Stranger 11. W. Pascoe will have the mount oil Topere in the Winter Cup. This horse has made good progress lately. A. S. Ellis will ride * Double Soult, Membo, Barrington and Gay Fashion on Tuesday. T. Green will be on Mr. G. D. Greenwood's pair, Pride and Swift ray.
