ANZAC BANNER.
■ % I WON BY PAKNELL SCHOOL. The annual contest for the Anzaxj Banner, held hy the school in the Auckland. Province whose pupils return the six best essays on a given war topic, was won this year hy the Paraell School, with Cornwall Park in second place. The competition is conducted by the Auckland Returned Soldiers' Association, and the subject on this occasion was "The Cenotaph." Thirty schools competed, and the judges' report stated that the standard attained by the essayists was a high one, and that' the marks awarded the leading contestants showed narrow margins in the first dozen places. The winning school aggregated 481 points, while the total of Cornwall Park was 454. The Parnell School also took the first three, individual prizes. The first twelve essays in order of merit, all of whom received prizes, were the following:—Dorothy Slaughter, Parnell, 88 points; Hector McDonald, Parnell, 85; Dora Dews, Parnell, 84; Harry Gapper, Cornwall Park, 84; Dorothy Fowler, Normal School, 82; Doris Wisnesky, Cornwall Park, 81; Elima Caldwell, Normal School, 80; Arthur Orme, Parnell, SO; A. McCook, Cornwall Park, 80; Arthur Ziman, Normal School, 78; L. Chapman, Cornwall Park, 78; Minnie Toki, Parnell, 74.
