THREE CHARGES.
ALLEGED BREAKING AND
ENTERING.
COMMITTED FOR TRIAL,
Pleading not guilty to three changes of breaking and entering and the theft of goods of a total value* of £41 11/6, Ceorge Albeit Hedlcy Nixon, an exjockey, aged 22, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial by Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. / - ' Vlrene J. E, 'Wilson, from was charged with stealing a ring, valued at £22 10/, said that she and her sister left the home at Murray's Bay about 10 a.m. on January 9, 1929. The house was locked up and the key put under a brick. When they returned an hour later ; *he key was still there and the house was locked* Witness, on searching for her engagement ring, which she had left on the bedstead, found that it had gone. Prank Parks, of 19, St. Stephen's Avenue, from whom a quantity of goods, valued at £5 10/, were taken, said he and his family went away for their summer holidays in December, 1928. Returning home late in January, they found that a number of articles were missing. Mrs. Wiseman, of Takapuna, whose house Was*, broken into on March 22, 1920, when goods worth £13 11/0 were stolen, said she Went away for four days in March. On returning, she found that somebody had tried to force the bathroom window; the front door was open. Asked by Mr. Atkins, who • appeared for accused, whether she had seen Nixon before, she said she was not sure. A day before "she left two men called at the house. One was about the same height as accused, but she could not swear that it was he. The man was wearing the brim of his hat turned down over his eyes. Evidence regarding a connection between accused and a' young wqjnan, who had made a voluntary statement concerning certain articles which she alleged accused had given her, was given by Acting-Detective Hall, of Wellington. Mr. Atkins submitted there was no case to answer. Mr. Hunt: Oh, yes, there is a prima facie case.
