OTAHUHU BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL.

The Otahuhu Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, presiding. Renaming of Streets.—A number of Avenue Road residents petitioned the council against changing the 'name of the street, but as the council was of opinion that the petitioners were a minority the clerk was instructed to write to each resident for an opinion. Albion Lane residents presented a similar petition, and it was agreed to uphold their objection. Saleyards Not Wanted.—The Great South Road Beautifying Society informed, the council it had been trying to divert the stock from the Great South . Road, but that its Representations to the Government had received very little support. It suggested as an alternative that the local bodies interested might agitate for the removal of the saleyards from Otahuhu. Councillors were rather diffident about acting, but finally agreed to get into touch with the other local bodies and find out what measure of agreement could be arrived at. , \ .

Commercial ,Air Port.—An invitation from the Auckland City Council to attend a conference on July 30 for consideration of this important matter was accepted. Messrs. Petrie and Pearce will represent the council.

Glaring Headlights.—ln order to cope with this nuisance the A.A.A. offered to cc-operate with the council in undertaking the necessary adjustments when convenient to non-members of the association for a nominal fee. The council expressed its appreciation of this offer, and will give all facilities required. Parking on the Great South Road.—The Works Committee reported that it had come to the conclusion that the side streets were "".oo narrow for parking, and therefore it had no recommendation to make, i Building, Inspector. — The inspector reported that the Auckland Education Board had requested liim to supervise all plumbing at the new school building, but refused to pay his fees.
