(Received 11.30 a.m.) DELHI, July 23. Sir Tej Bahadur Sapru and Mr. M. Jayakar, well-known moderate leaders, in accordance with authority from the Viceroy, visited Gandhi in the Yervada gaol, near Poona, in an endeavour to secure a settlement of the political situation. They had a four hours' interview with him in his cell. They afterwards saw Mrs. Sarojini Naidu, ex-president of the Congress party, who was in an adjacent cell. Though the result of the talks arc unknown, it is stated that Gandhi expressed himself fully aware of the situation throughout the country. It is thought that Sir Bahadur Sapru and Mr. Jayakar placed before Gandhi certain terms which he asked till to-monow to consider. INDIAN CONFERENCE. ' TO BE HELD AT ST. JAMES'.
