SLIGHT INCREASE IN KATES.

The monthly meeting of the Henderson Town Board was held last night. The chairman, Mr. W. T. R. Leighton, presided, and there were also present Messrs. 8. Ozich, A. Forson-Stewart, and T. McKay. The Auckland City Council wrote saying that a conference to consider the question of a commercial airport would be held on July 30. Messrs. Ozich and ForsonStewart were appointed delegates. _ • The Henderson Ratepayers' Association was granted the use of the supper room in the Town Hall on July 31 for the purpose of holding their annual meeting. The noxious weeds inspector reported that tenders had been called for clearing noxious weeds from the board's property in Millbrook Road, Henderson Falls, and on the sanitary grounds, and the work was now completed. The foreman reported that necessary work had been done on the Valley, View, and South Roads, the footpaths cleaned in Henry Street, George Street, and McLeod Road, scoria spread on the sanitary site roadway, and the sealing of the joints on the main highway almost completed. He estimated the cost of scarifying, grading, and dressing with coarse chip all metal road surfaces at :£3OO. The rates for the current year were fixed at 9d in the £ on the unimproved value of the land, this being an increase of one halfpenny on the previous year. It was also decided to enforce the ten per cent penalty on all rates unpaid after August 27. Public work to the value of approximately £1880 is to be carried out during the ensuing year.
