YOUNGSTERS AT TE AWAMUTU

J7. STONE'S TILLIES

A rising two-year-old full sister to Motere, by Lord Quex from Lovcmatch, is among the team trained by W. Stone at Te Awamutu. She is one of the sturdiest built fillies in work there, and displays a lot of quality. This youngster was sprinted over a couple of furlongs on the course proper on Tuesday, and is a particularly good actioned filly. She will be raced in juvenile events during the coming season. Lovematch, her dam, is by Martian from Lovelorn, by Melton from Hebrew Maid (imported). Hebrew Maid is the dam of Judith, who threw, Palestrina, a good performer in the South, and Jericho, who showed good promise but unfortunately went amiss.

One of the nicest fillies in work at Te Awamutu is a rising two-year-old by Gainseourt from Holywell, therefore a half-sister to Llandudno. She is well grown for her age, and shows exceptional promise, having plenty of length, very solid hindquarters, splendid shoulders and a good game Avell-shapcd head. The daughter of Gainseourt has been sprinted a few times, and her trainer, W. Stone, expects her to develop into a first-class galloper. Like Llandudno she was bred by her owner, Mrs. H. M. Campbell, of Hawkc's Bay.

AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB.

The programme for the new season has been issued by the Avondale Jockey Club, and though the total stake-money is the same as last season (10,400sovs), it has been distributed somewhat differently, and the autumn meeting has gained in this respect. The sum of 574050vs will be given at the spring meeting, compared with SOOOsovs this season, and 4G(sosovs at the autumn meeting, against 4500sovs hist autumn. At the spring meeting the Kingsland Hurdles will be worth 220sovs, instead of 200sovs, and the Champion Hack Plate, of 300sovs, will take the place of the Members' Handicap: The Cup, Avondale Stakes, Flying Stakes, Swanson Handicap and Henderson Handicap remain the same. The Grey Lynn Hurdles has been raised 20sovs and the Avondale Guineas (mentioned some time ago) will only be worth oOOsovs, instead of 750sovs. The other events are the same. At the autumn meeting the Avondale Hurdles and the Titirangi Handicap have been increased by 25sovs each. The Nursery Handicap lias also been raised lOsovs, the Autumn Handicap SOsovs, tins Mount Eden Handicap and the Morningside Handicap 25sovs. Altogether tho progranme prove most attractive.
