There was a steady demand, and values were on a par with last week's sales. Extra choice ox sold to 40/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 36/ to 3!)/; secondary and plain ox, 33/ to 35/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 35/ to 37/; ordinary cow beef, 30/ to 34/: heavy prime steers ranged in price from £14 10/ to £15 10/; lighter prime steers, £13 to £14 7/6; light prime steers, £11 10/ to £12 17/6; small and unfinished steers, £9 to £11 5/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £11 to £12 15/; heavy prime cows and heifers, £9 10/ to £10 17/6; lighter prime cows and heifers, £8 to £9 7/6; light cows, £6 10/ to £7 17/6; other cows, £4 10/ to £6 7/6.
Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., report: At our weekly Westfield fat stock market held to-day our supply of fat cattle totalled 284 head, comprising 203 steers and 81 cows and heifers, as compared with 187 head at last week's market. The entry included several consignments of heavy prime cattle. There was a steady demand throughout, and generally last week's advance was sustained. Extra choice ox sold to 40/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox, 37/ to 39/; secondary and plain ox, 35/ to 36/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 35/ to 37/; ordinary cow beef, 27/ to 34/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £16 10/ to £17 5/; heavy prime steers, £15 to £16 7/6: lighter prime steers, £13 15/ to £14 17/6; light prime steers, £12 to £13 12/6; small and unfinished steers, £9 to £11 17/6. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £11 10/ to £13 7/6; heavy prime cows and heifers, £9 15/ to £11 7/6; lighter prime cows and heifers, £8 10/_to £9 12/6; other killable cews, £5 10/ to £8 7/6.
Dalgety and Company, Limited, report as • follows:—At our weekly Westrield fat stock market held to-day we yarded ox beef in less than usual numbers, and prices remained on a par with last week's rates. Cow and heifer beef also came forward in fewer numbers than usual, and here again values remained firm. Extra choice ox sold to 40/ per 1001b; choice and prime ox. 37/ to 39/; secondary and plain ox, 33/ to 36/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 37/; ordinary cow beef, 27/ to 33/. Heavy prime steers, £ to £16 2/6; lighter prime steers, £13 12/6 to £14 12/6; light prime steers. £12 7/6 to £13 12/6; small and unfinished steers, £9 to £12. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers. £11 to £12; heavy prime cows and heifers, £9 10/ to £10 15/; lighter prime cows and heifers. £7 to £8 17/6; other killable cows, £5 10/ to £6 15/.
