MEETING OF THE BOARD.
POINT CHEVALIER TRAMS,
The Auckland Transport Board met this morning, Mr. J. A. C. Allum presiding. > The chairman and Mr. J. Wood were appointed to represent the hoard at a meeting called for July 30 by the Auckland City Council to consider the proposal to establish a commercial airport. ■ "I think a scheme of education would be better," said Mr. Allum, when a letter was received from the City Council asking the board, with a view to reducing street accidents, to placard their trams and buses with "safety first" notices. The letter was received and the matter referred to the manager for report. Mr. Allum announced that the Point Chevalier tram extension would be .opened on Sunday morning.
It was decided that the tram stop near the Khyber Pass-Mountain Road intersection be confirmed in the present position, fixed on October 15 last. Mr. Allum said that the stop would serve until a traffic inspector were put on the intersection. The matter would then lave to be reconsidered.
In regard to a letter from the Salvation Army asking that concession fares be given to Boy Scouts and Girl Guides, Mr. Allum said that the already generous concessions given by the board for children should meet the bill.
