WOMAN'S FALSE PRETENCES.
DENTISTS VICTIMISED.
EIGHT MONTHS' IMPRISONMENT.
"This woman is not long up from Pakatoa Island, and she has been drinking about the town," said Chief Detective Hammond about Mary Hodson, aged 42, a cook, who appeared at the Police Court this morning, when she pleaded guilty to five charges of obtaining a total of £7 17/0 from various people by false pretences.
Mr. Hammond added that the woman had. gone to a number of dentists and put them to a lot of trouble taking impressions of her teeth, etc. At -one place she told a tale about having lost lier bag, and she borrowed £1, while at others she obtained money by representing that she was a woman from North Auckland. "She's been a nuisance," said Mr. Hammond.
Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., said he had received a report from the probation officer about the woman. "The only thing to do with her is to put her away for as long as possible," said Mr. Hunt. "She went to a respectable boarJinghouse, and goodness knows what she did not do there."
Accused was sentenced to four months' imprisonment on each of two charges, the sentences to he cumulative.
