LAWN TENNIS.
TAIHAPE CLUB PROBLEM.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
TAIHAPE, Monday. Speaking as a member of a deputation from the local Tennis Club to the Borough Council at its last meeting, Mr. P. E. Wakeman* stated that the club had spent £2000 on the courts and were anxious to come to an agreement with the council in the matter of the court which had been laid down by the Works Committee of that body. Another member of the deputation, Mrs. D. Neagle, averred that such was the bad state of the completed court that dresses of some players had been spoilt by tar. The Tennis Club submitted alternatives: (1) Work to be completed in competent manner for £150, or (2) the council accept £70 in settlement. After the deputation had withdrawn it was mentioned that the Works Committee had no desire to do the job in the first place and would henceforth take on no more private wofk. It was recommended that the amount of £70 be accepted.
