NOTES FROM RICCARTON
HORSES FOR AUSTRALIA.
F. W. ELLIS' TEAM.
AN APPRENTICE LICENSE IN
JEOPARDY,
(By Telegraph.—Special to " Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, Monday. If current reports can be credited a South Island apprentice, who has done a fair amount of riding this season, will bs missing when the licenses for next season are published. His riding has not been called in question, but his conduct in other directions appears to have aroused serious official displeasure, as it is understood he will not be permitted to work in a racing stable.
J. T. Humphris was a spectator at the Waimate Hunt meeting on Saturday. He has made a good recovery from his recent illness, but on account of the cold weather he decided not to ride at the meeting. He expects, however, to bo in the saddle again at the South Canterbury Hunt meeting on Saturday.
The Southland trainer, F. W. Ellis, will leave Bluff next Monday for Melbourne with Gold Cup, Red Sea and Cough, who will be raced in Australia in the spring. Ellis, who broke a leg recently, 'is getting about on crutches, but will not be able to do a great deal with his team for some time. Pending his complete recovery, however, he will be able to rely on his son, L. J. Ellis, who will accompany him on the trip, his intention being to ride in Australia during the next few months.
