PAEROA TO POKENO.
RAILWAY CONSTRUCTION NOT
YET JUSTIFIED.
LETTER FROM MINISTER,
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
TAURANGA, this day.
The Minister of Public Works, the Hon. W. B. Taverner, replying to the Bay of Plenty Development League, .wrote. with reference to the, PaeroaPokeno railway that investigations carried out to ascertain if the cost could be reduced'below the figure required by the first survey do not suggest that the construction would show an adequate return.
However, the Minister stated, the aspect put forward by the league, that duplication to Frankton would be obviated, was being carefully considered, and the Paeroa-Pokeno cut-off might appear in a more favourable light when the time arrived'that'the Frankton duplication was required..
