City Gain Close Victory Over Kingsland. The teams were :— City.—L. Barchard, McLaughlin, Paton, Perry, G. Perry, Davidson, Reynolds, J. Hadley, W. Hadley, Barchard, Iveson, Pascoe, Hamilton. Kingsland-Athletics.—McLaughlin, Carter, List, H. Carter, York, Herring, Lucas, Railey, Atkins, Ramm, Yardley, E. Simms, G. Simms. City opened hostilities in quick style, Davidson opening up play for McLaughlin to finalise at the corner. Barchard failed to convert. City 3, Kingsland 0. Gaining
possession from the loose, G. Perry dashed; away, and when tackled transferred to j Davidson, who drew Carter, and then on to Paton, the latter going across at the corner. Barchard made a great attempt, but his shot "went under the posts. City G, Kingsland 0. City went within an ace of scoring when Iveson broke away with the ball at toe and no one to beat, but lie •elected to try to pick it up, knocking-on, throwing away a certain try. However, the red and blacks were not to be denied, Hadley scoring from a combined movement In which the City backs participated. Barchard raised the flags. Half-time came -with the scores: City 11 Kingsland 0 • Upon the resumption, Kingsland put renewed vigour into -their play,' List making a great opening and then sending to Carter, who -went across at the cornel-. Again tlie: maroons swung to the attack, Simms gaining from the centre of tlie field. Selling the "dummy" to McLaughlin, lie ran right through on liis own, outpacing the City backs, and finally grounding under the posts. Herring .converted. City 11, Kingsland 8. Pretty inter-passing between tlie Perry brothers saw City further increase their advantage when G. Perry scored. City 14, Kingsland 8. Finding an opening List dashed away, fending off McLaughlin, and then drawing Barchard, to leave Carter a clear run in. Herring converted. City 14, Kingsland 13. City were having the better of the play, and added another score wlien Davidson accepted Ferry's pass to go across well out. City were pressing -when tlie game terminated, the final scores being: City 17 Kingsland 13 Mr. l'\ Thompson was referee;
