CRITICISM OF CITY BATHS. LETTER TO TOWN CLERK. Remarks contained in a letter to the City Council last month, by the New Zealanders' Association, criticising the appointment of a baths supervisor, the charging of fees for the teaching of (swimming, the dismissal of one of the caretakers and the closing of the vShelly Beach and Parnell baths during the winten, have been withdrawn by Mr. C. E. Collins. ■ secretary of the New Zealanders, Association. "I desire to tender my. sincere thanks to Councillors Paterson, Phelan and Mr. J. S. Brigham for a very courteous interview this morning on the subiect of the public baths," said Mr. Collins, v in a letter dated June 14, "and respectfully beg to assure you that, after having had the wholo matter explained and the position of Mr. Champion as baths supervisor verified, and the results of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Shelly Beach Jmths produced and explained, thus justifying the c'osing of them during the winter, I am quite satisfied that the council have taken the right course in giving effect to the recommendations of the Parks Committee. "I therefore respectfully ask your permission to withdraw my letters of May 12 and May 18 in full, and am sorry that T should have been the cause of any inconvenience or unnecessary work that you and your staff should have been put to." In a report which appeared in last nieht's "Star" concerning the meeting of the Auckland Swimming Centre, there appeared a statement that Mr. Mulvihill j had abused Mr. M. Champion, baths superintendent. Mr. Mulvihill states that he was referring to Mr. J. R. Lundon and not' to Mr. Champion.
