Governor Gives Assent to Well Contested Bill. LONGER WEEK AND LESS PAY. SYDNEY, June 17. The Governor of New South Wales, Sir Philip Game, has given his assent to the Economy Bills passed by Parliament after strenuous opposition in the Legislative Assembly. These measures, which come into force on July 1, will increase working hours from 44 to 48 a week, permit rationing of employment and authorise reductions in public servants' salaries. Also they will impose an unemployment tax of 3d in the pound on all earnings and reorganise Government relief administration.
