ROTORUA NOTES.
At St. Luke's Parish Hall, on Thursday evening, an enjoyable progressive bridge and "500" evening was arranged by the members of St. Luke's Ladies' Guild. Bowls of autumn-tinted foliage made attractive decorations. Mr. J. Halkett was in charge of the "500" tournament, the prizes being won by Mr. Tanner I, Mrs. W. T. Brown 2. The bridge was supervised by Mr. A. Eees-George, and the prize for the highest score was won by Miss Gunn and the "hidden number" by Miss L. M. Crawford. The Public Works Sports Club organised a successful and enjoyable dance and "500" tournament at the Majestic ballroom on Wednesday evening, when over 200 guests were present. Cards were supervised in the lounge upstairs by Mr. Bexley, the prhse-winners being Mrs. Tanner for the ladies and Mr. Tanner for the gents. The dance music was supplied by. the Melody Boys' Orchestra, with extras played by Mr. Garth. Mr. Scott capably carried out the duties of M.C. The Monte Carlo waltz prizes were won by Miss G. Kerr and Mr. P. Brewin. A dainty supper was supplied by Mr. F. Oldham. On Saturday a bridge evening was given by Miss Kathleen Hall at her residence, Amohau Street, the guest of honour being Mr. Frank Grove, who is shortly to be married. The reception rooms were prettily arranged. "Mrs. Hall received in black satin beaute, Miss Hall wore black beaded ninon. During supper, Mr. W. W. P. Hall proposed the health of the prospective bridegroom. The prizes for bridge were w,on by Miss J. Giesen and Mr. E. Kirk. A concert was given by the Eotorua Women's Club to the patients at the Eotorua Government Sanatorium, irr the men's ward on Friday evening. The programme was arranged by Mr. Phyl Basham. Mrs. N. K. Keane, president of the club, presided. Items were given by Basham's concert party, Misses C. Holland, E. Campny, J. Giesen, E. Malcolm; songs by Mr."B. Young, Mr. P. Basham, Mr. F. Home; recitations by Miss E. Sharpe and Miss V. Holland; violin solos by Mr. A. Dannefaerd. A 500 tournament was held at the Empire Hotel, Eotorua, kindly given by Miss O'Hagan, in aid of the Convent school. Supper was provided by the committee, Mesdames Goodyer, Walker, Short, McCarthy, Parks, Ellis. The cards were supervised by Mr. Ellis. Prizewinners were Mrs. Aitkin and Mfs. Cowpar. i Miss A. Steele, Union Street, has returned after a month's holiday in Auckland. Mrs. Tolhurst, who has been staying in Eotorua, has returned to Auckland. Miss Baker has returned to Wellington, after a visit to Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty. Miss Stanton, of King George V. Hospital, has returned from a visit to Auckland. On Friday evening an enjoyable social evening was arranged by the members of St. John's Presbyterian Church. It was devoted to cards and dancing. "
