At Milan Italy won the Davis Cup semi-final, eliminating Australia, when Morpurgo beat Hopman in the third singles match B—6, 2—6, 6—4, I—6, 6—l. Crawford beat Stefani, 6—4, 6—3, 6—2. The crowd's sustained bellowing of encouragement to its champion, Morpurgo, added to Hopman's difficulties. Such continued barracking is not encountered in any other country. Nevertheless, Hopman put up a magnificent fight, but Morpurgo was the superior player. MOTOR CYCLE RECORD. « . ./ TOURIST TROPHY RACE. V ——— (Received 12 noon.) RUGBY, June 16. W. L. Handley, riding a Senior Rudge machine, broke all records for the Tourist Trophy motor cycle course at the Isle of Man on Saturday. Handley reduced by 40s Dodson's lap record in winning last year's race and achieved a speed of 75.2 miles an hour. The junior tourist motor cycle trophy race in the Isle of Man to-day was won by Tyrell-Smith on a Rudge machine. Nott and Walker, both on Rudge machines, were second and third. The winner's average speed was 71.08 miles per hour. The race was over a distance of 26-i miles, and British supremacy was challenged by foreign riders from' many countries. i WHITTON OUT. • N.S.W. Hector Morrison defeated the. Tasmanian champion, Li Nettlefold, 3 up and 2. Nettlefold was right off his game. Eight players remain in the second round, which will be played to-morrow.
