PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS.
I liave followed with some interest the views of correspondents regarding preference to returned soldiers. Some advocate returned soldiers organising and demanding preference. But wliv should they have to organise to demand that which ought to be theirs by the claims of humane consideration alone if by no other? One's mind goes back reflectively to those recruiting days! Did anyone then, however callous, imagine for a moment that those men to whom the country appealed to make perhaps the supreme sacrifice would need on their return to organise to gain the, right to live in decency if even not in comfort? LEST WE FORGET.
