SPEAKS HIS MIND.

M.P. TOR BAGLAN SUGGESTS

SWEEPING CHANGES.

THREE AUCKLAND MEMBERS!

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)

WELLINGTON, Monday.

Mr W Lee Martin, the "Independent" Labour member for Raglan, has views of his own in regard to parties and policies which are. not always in harmony with those of his colleague on benches. There must be times when he occasions Ms party leaders anxiety and even alarm. He has a habit of speaking for himself without consulting the caucus and even without counting the full significance of his words. Speaking at the luncheon of the Central Power Board? the other day he Stated that in the interests of the who«j country it would be well to make a eweepin- change in the whole system ofSoveWent: The Legislative Council, he maintained, should be abolished alto-ether, and the membership ot House of Representatives .should be Seed to forty in place of the present eighty. Three members representing the % of Auckland, he was eatkfied, would SrVe the citv better than did the present eleven. A 'smaller Parliament would mean less waste and very much better service. This view of the representation problem is not shared by official Labour, but it ifi saining ground in the country.
