The younger fujl-brother to King's Jest has., not raced since ho was a two-year-olcl in the' 192G-27 season, but lie may bo a starter at the- Hawke's Bay fixture this .week. One of. the nicest-looking vising two-year-olds at Ellerslie is a black colt by Top Gallant from Princess Ilona, who was purchased at the Easter sales at Sydney. This youngster is well developed and shows a lot of quality. Gala Day lias proved successful on the fiat and also as a hurdler, and the exAuckland gelding is to make- his first appearance as, a steeplechaser at the South Canterbury meeting next Thursday. Gala Day should do well in this department with a little experience. • Takutaina finished a good third in the Visitors' Handicap, six furlongs, on the concluding day of the-Great Northern meeting. This was one of his best efforts for-a long time, considering the field, and if he only reproduces that form at the Waipa meeting he should go very near landing the chief end of the stake. To Hoi a. finished third in the Carbine Plate on the concluding day of the Great Northern meeting, and he will probably have his next outing at the Waipa meeting next Saturday week. He is engaged in the Arapuni Handicap, seven furlongs, with 9.10, and should go well. Standfast finished fifth in the Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie and third in the York Handicap on. the concluding day. He has been given -9.7 in the- Woodstock Stakes Handicap, one mile and a 'quarter, at the Waipa meeting, and should l)o one of the hardest to beat. Lucess performed well at the Great Northern meeting at Ellerslie. The sou of Lucullus has been entered for the Eunters' Steeplechase at the Waipa meeting next Saturday week, and even with 11.2 he should take a good deal of seating. York Abbey, who has been off the scene for a very long time, is nominated tor. the, Hunters' Steeplechase at the iVaipa meeting. He has had experience jver battens and can jump well, but he ias yet to prove himself over the larger )bHtacles. Temperature ran, quite a good race in ;he,,Hunt Club Hurdles at the Great Northern meeting, finishing fourth after jeing- prominent all the way. He is in it the minimum in the Ngaroto Hurdles it the Waipa meeting, and if he has aken no harm from his fall in the Win;er Steeplechase on the concluding day ie should give a good account of himself. Orazone, who is entered for the Waipa neeting, is one of J.- Fryer's team. This nare won the Whareroa Handicap, eight urlongs and a half, at the Egniont sumner meeting, and a little later at the "aranaki meeting accounted for the Jhristmas Handicap, one mile and a [iiarter, but was beaten by Monsogne in he Malone Memorial Handicap, nine furongs, at Stratford. These are her best >erformances this season. Hannibal has gone on the right way ince he scored in the second division of he Jervois Handicap at Ellerslie earlier n the month. He hit out very freely iver a sprint distance at Ellerslie last Saturday morning, and as he. appears to ie an improving horse he may be one of he best of the lightweights engaged in he Woodstock Stakes at Te Awamutu f started. - ■ Carlaris showed great promise when he an Luminary to a head in the'Panmure Ixirdle Race on the second day of the Jreat Northern' meeting. On the third ay he was just moving up in the Orakei lurdles when he fell at the obstacle near he fivc-furlong post. Carlaris is engaged n the Ngaroto Hurdles at the Waipa neeting on Saturday week, and if he eproduces his best form he should be in he picture at the finish. Sea Cob had proved useful up to a mile n the flat, and he has recently been cljooled over hurdles. He is nominated or the Ngaroto Hurdles at the Waipa aeeting, which, if he starts, will be his rst appearance in public over the batens. Sea Cob has been given ,71b above lie minimum, and as he is within 51b of lountain- Guide and Carlaris, he will ave to be pretty good to beat that pair : they are produced at their best. True Blood won the Cornwall Handiip with 8.0, but was out of a place in lie York Handicap, one mile, on the con[uding day of the Great.Northern nieetig with 9.11. He was finishing on at :ie end, and if it had been another two .irlongs to go he would have taken a >t of beating. He is in the Woodstock takes Handicap, one mile and a quarter, t the Waipa meeting with 10.0, and if iarted should be difficult to dispose of. "e is meeting Maori Boy, who won the ork Handicap, on 101b better terms at c Awamutu. Mangani showed that he was doming iick to form by tlie manner in which 8 ran in the Campbell Hurdle Race at llerslio recently. He - looked to be the inner as they entered the, straight, but , ;11 at the last hurdle... Last .season this )rse won the Grand National Hurdle ace> which was his last success. It is stated that a Taranaki sport i in negotiation for the purchase c Cliroinadyiie, who was passed at SOOgs a a sale held in Auckland by Wrigh Stephensoii find Co. :during the Grea Northern meeting. Chroniadyne aftu'i wards won the Carbine Plate. Master Lti won two steeplechases a the Great Northern meeting in goo style, and lie. should be an improved hors if he is saddled up at the Waipa meetinj The field does not look as though i will be very strong in the To Awamut Steeplechase, and the son of Spalpce will have to be seriously considered i started. The Australian jockey, J. Munro, wo the Union Kace, known as the Berli Derby, on Alba recently. Since hi arrival in Germany, Munro has bpen i good form; ; He went abroad unde 'engagement,tb : -v ßαvon Oppenhcini, an in his first 20 mounts rode eight winners A letter received'by his mother last Ayee: stated that Munro had previously wo: important races on Alba. Since Novembe 23 Casque d'Or has run in 14 races, am he has been out of a place in six o them. In that period he has earned £54 in prize-money without gaining a win He first revealed something of his bes form by finishing second to his stable mate, Panola. in the Cainden Handicap at Warwick Farm, on December 7, and following two unplaced performances he began a sequence of minor place: which Avas broken by his close fourt] ill the Eosehill Railway Handicap ii April. Three starts since then havi yielded £140 in stakes, Casque d'Or agaii being beaten by a stable-mate, Killarney in the Prospect Handicap at Warwic! Farm on May 31, and although at Rand wick on June 9 he finished a long waj in front of Killarney he was shown th< way to the winning post, by Greensea.
