NEW GOLF COURSE.
CONSTRUCTION AT. ROTORUA,
TRANSFORMING A WILDERNESS,
Rotorua is to have a new nine-hotegolf course. For vears to the left of the Sanatorium there bas remained air area of some 45 acres on which has nounshei an abundance of scrub. The area .has been transformed by the axe and the plough, and preparations are now being made to convert it into a golf course, which will not, however, be ready lor use for two vears. * . '.'
Reforrin? to the work this morning, the Hon. P. A. de la, Perrelle, Minister-in-Charge of the Tourist Department, said there was apparently some fear on the part of the sports bodies that the new golf links ( would spread to the area reserved, but that was not so. The Minister expressed himself as being well pleased with the progress made in the erection of the new bath: house. It was stated that the building would be ready for occupation abont November next, which is the commencement of the tourist season.
The Mayor had told him there was no doubt that the Government had well tackled the problems confronting the borough, in providing much-needed improvements. The new bathhouse was a verv solid structure and would certainly be 'in keeping with the development ot the famous resort. '
