BUSINESS BLOCK FOR SALE. FATHER O'MEAEA FAREWELLED.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) THAMES, Sunday. The large block of business premises and private dwellings belonging to the Trustees of the Kilgour Estate will be put up for public auction at an early date. This is the largest block of properties in the business part of the town to be offered for public sale for many years, and will not doubt create keen competition. The block was purchased by the late Dr. Kilgour in the early days of Thames, and has been held by s< the family for over 00 years. The bonus of fl per ounce on gold won suggested by the Australian Government, has led to the hope that something of a similar nature might with profit be undertaken by the New Zealand Government. It certainly would be of the utmost importance to Thames and surrounding goldfields, and go a long way to create fresh interest in the gold mining industry. At the present time the industry is'languishing for want of interest, but with u bonus from the Government for gold won,- and modern methods of development and treatment, the industry would receive the attention of the investing public.
Heaving received notice of. his promotion to parish priest at Coroirtandei, Father O'Meara, who for the past two i and a half years has been curate at St. Francis' Church, Thames, was accorded a farewell social prior to leaving for Coromandel. Mr. James Twohill, in asking Father O'Meara to accept a wallet of banknotes, said the large attendance that evening spoke volumes for the esteem in which Father O'Meara was held. Miss M. Corbett, on behalf of .the Children of Mary, _ presented . Father O'Meara with an album. Father O'Meara, in reply, said he regretted leaving Thames, where he had made so many good friends. During the evening a very fine musical programme was rendered by the scholars of the school. Father O'Meara was born at Tipperary, Ireland, and after four years spent in Italy he came tq Thames.
