Eighteen riders, started. A bitterly cold wind from the south-west assisted the riders over a greater portion of the circuit than it re» tarded them, consequently the times recorded were fast. The steep hill, over half a niile in length, tested the competitors as never before. As expected, the limit riders hove in sight first. They could be seen.for over half a mile from the natural grandstand. Gordon made a great effort, but D. Baird withstood the challenge and won by a clear length; with Boston 20 yards third. Less than a minute later S. Baird, brother of the dinner, and Avery crossed the line, Baird having a fiye lengths' advantage. Particular attention was paid to Baird's finish, for time honours were between him and Avery and the next'two groups. However, Pinker was the only lm 45s rider to finish, Casey having fallen on the first corner after the completion of lap one. Pinker clocked 27m 41s, while Wade shot past a little later to clock 27m 575. Baird, having previously clocked 27m SOs, made the fastest time. Detailed results:— D. B*!rd (sm) 1 11. V.
