MOUNT EDEN V. WHIPPETS.
Although. Mount Eden put on six goals against the Whippets,, the score should have been doubled. The winners were in the Whippets' territory the greater portion of the game, and instead of indulging in a sound combined passing game, resorted to too much- individual effort and hard hitting. The students had a severe taste of defensive work and withstood the pressure well. When the forwards did get possession- of the ball they either hung on too long or over-ran it. The game was a very poor display and difficult to recognise as one in the senior division.. The playing area was undersize, but very fast, and no doubt was somewhat responsible for upsetting the players' calculations. ■• Mount Eden had a rare chance to indulge in useful work, but let the chance go. In the closing stages the whole team —save- the goal-keeper—bunched as a set of forwards, scrapping to score goals. For Eden the best work was done by Wellborne, left wing, and Ash, right wing, while the brothers, H. and M. Jones, were responsible for finding the net. Lea in the Whippets' net, made some verv fine saves. Leonard was best of the full-backs. Broun, centre-half, tried his best to open the game, but the front line diS-not make full use of the chances.
