RUSSIA FOR CHEESE

As a number of readers have expressed surprise at the figures published in these columns a few weeks back concerning the dairy production of New Zealand m comparison with that of other countries, fuller details are given in the following tables The statistics quoted have been obtained from the Dominion Bureau of Dairy Statistics, Canada:—

With the exception of Argentina, Czechoslovakia, Finland and Sweden, the figures given represent total production In the four countries named only the production of creameries and factories is shown. , .'.«__* It will be seen from the foregoing that despite New Zealand's prominent position as a supplier of butter and cheese to Great Britain, her percentage of the world's total production is relatively small. ... , i_ ■> • The United States, it-will be noted, is the chief producer of butter, with Russia first in cheese. New Zealand has probably improved, her position relatively since these statistics were compiled, but the general position is vastly different to what has been commonly believed to exist.
