PAINTING RESULTS.

SENIORS SUBMIT GOOD WORK,

JUNIORS ALSO DO WELL.

Dear Boys and Girls, — The painting competition conducted in the Budget of May 31 proved very popular indeed. Entries were heavy for both sections and the work on the whole was very good. In the senior section there were quite a dozen runners-up tor the cash awards and carefui selection was made in order to determine the prize winning entries. The first place was given to Muriel Gourdie for a simple painting with very well thought out colour scheme. In the main the dress was of pale pink with blue trimmings and a blue sash, with bonnet to match. Madge Lyne's entry was similarly well done, but in her picture the tiny maiden was dressed in blue with a black hat. The third prize was given for a painting in oils. A lot of work must have been put into this effort and the result was a very good picture.indeed. Other prizes in this section were carried off by Arthur Thompson, Betty Middleton, W. K. Buchanan and Norma Strange. The first-prize in the junior section was won by Elaine Tomes. Here the little girl who was, gathering flowers was dressed in green with blue sash and collar; her hat was pale yellow trimmed .with pink. This little artist went to quite a lot of trouble to obtain a good sky effect, and for a little girl of eleven succeeded quite well. Lorraine Tyler, Gladys Shaw, Madge Parkes, Phillida Mays and Robert Leach were the other competitors who received cash prizes. At first sight this week's competi- £jft *^M tion may appear simple, but I anticipate that competitors will find it a f__ [/ f difficult task to find all the animals hidden in the picture. lU^^n^^
