BIRTHDAY HONOURS.

It will be generally agreed that the honours which His Majesty, on the occasion of his birthday, Has graciously conferred upon four distinguished New Zealanders are appropriate and well-deserved. Sir T. M. Wilford had been a prominent figure in the Dominion's public life for over thirty years before he became High Commissioner, and his fine record of public service, as Mayor of Wellington, as member of Parliament and as Minister in various . capacities, certainly merits this recognition. Sir Alfred Bankart, though he has not taken up a political career, has played a conspicuous part in local public affairs, and his valuable work as treasurer of our Patriotic and War Belief Association has not yet been forgotten. But his name should always be most closely associated with our splendid War Memorial Museum, which was very largely the product of his energy, his organising ability and his enthusiasm. Mr. R.. A. Anderson, as a member of many public bodies and a business man connected with several of' the Dominion's most important' industrial and commercial interests, and Mr. P. D. Verschaffelt, as a capable departmental official and Public Service Commissioner, have rightly been numbered among those whom "the King delights to, honour," and we congratulate them heartily on the high distinction that their personal merits and public services have earned so well.
