OLD THAMES GIRLS.

The Old Thames Girls' Association held one of their pleasant reunions in t.ho school of the Pitt Street Methodist yesterday afternoon, at which there was a good gathering 'of members and friends. Mrs. Alfred Oldham, the president, was in the chair, and in welcoming the guests of the ' afternoon said how delighted she was to see so many old friends gathered together once more with the good friendship of the old Thames days. On the platform with the speaker were Mr. and Mrs. Douglas, who celebrated their diamond wedding some time ago, Mrs. Gubb, aged 80, Mrs. Porteous, 87, Miss Hazledean, Mrs. Brislcn, and Mrs. Johns, all over SO. Father Von Rotter, a son of an old Thames resident, would have • been with them but for indisposition. A large number of garments, over three hundred, had been made by the members, and were displayed on a side table. These consisted of "a. large number of bedspreads lined with blankets and neatly finished with a pretty outside cover; GO pairs of men's socks, men's hand-knitted cardigans and pull-overs, singlets for men and women, bloomers for women, warm and good; boys' jerseys and underwear and pretty little frocks for the girls. One of these was particularly pretty and good enough for the finest home, while another lady, who evidently had met the troubles that beset the garments of the small person in her past experiences, had thoughtfully pinned in the bits for patches to be used when the new garment went the way of al such, an amusing but touching act of kindness. The babies, of course, were Well thought about, and many and beautiful we're the little garments, fashioned in white wool which will bo at their disposal'. In thanking the workers for their kind thoughtfulness, both in garments and in the thirty pounds which was handed over for the. needy of the city, both Major Gordon and Sister Esther spoke about the.great need which existed at the present time for such help. Sister Esther mentioned that at the Manna House they had over 200 men sit down to dinner. On Sunday morning they gave them coffee and toast for breakfast, and there, was a short religious service as well. 1 At the conclusion. of the speeches afternoon tea was served. During the afternoon two birthdays were - celebrated. Sirs. Telford, ninety, and Mrs. Peat, eighty-six, and they were presented with beautiful bouquets. The society will celebrate its fourth birthday in September, and during, the time it has been working no less than £000 has been-given to help those who are in need as well as over 2000 garments. Songs were given by Miss Bagnall and Miss Stansfield, while Miss Dalton gave a recitation.
