KING'S VETERANS.

ANNUAL LUNCHEON. GOVERNOR-GENERAL'S ADDRESS,

Their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Bledisloe, were the principal guests at the annual luncheon of the King's Empire Veterans, held in the - Town Hall this • afternoon. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, presided over a large attendance of'veterans, and representatives of various, bodies in the city. Replying to the,welcome given by the Mayor, his Excellency „expressed the deep gratification felt by him and by Lady Bledisloe at the friendly greeting that had been extended to them wherever they had gone among all classes and sections of the community. "I am convinced," said his Excellency, "that on this the King's Birthday the prayer 'God Save the King' rises nowhere with greater sincerity than in New Zealandi" His Majesty had set a splendid example of devotion to duty and represented the best in the traditions of service and social order. With this high example set before him, his Excellency said he felt that it was his mission to / foster the prosperity, contentment and happiness of the people of New Zealand. In proposing the toast "The King's Empire Veterans," Lord Bledisloe remarked that there could be no true discipline without the comradeship that would keep all creeds and classes in step, for without unity "there could not be progress. An excellent musical programme was given and the function concluded with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne" and the National Anthem.
