DEVONPORT FERRIES.
.1 t ■ SPEEDIER SERVICE ASKED. RUSH-HOUR TRAFFIC. A deputation representing the Devonport Borough Council and the Waitemata Chamber of Commerce waited on the Devonport Steam Ferry Company yesterday with suggestions for facilitating the handling of trans-harbour traffic. The deputation urged the company to maintain a- quarter hour service* daily from 4.45 p.m. to 5.30 p.m., and on Saturdays from noon to 1.0 p.m. They urged more stringent control of the embarking and disembarking of vehicles, and more strict attention to the proper parking of cars on steamers. To carry the number of cars, which cross the harbour after the week-end it was suggested that an extra boat should leave from Devonport at 8.30 on Monday mornings. On behalf of the company the chairman of directors, the Hon. E. W. Alison, said that the directors would consider the different points raised.
