BUTTER BOXES.
» TARIFF REMOVAL OPPOSED. At the last annual meeting of the North Auckland Dairy Conference the following resolution was passed and sent to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Customs: "That this conference is opposed to the alteration of the tariff or the removal of the rebate on foreign butter-box timber as suggested by the timber millers." The Rt. Hon. Sir Joseph Ward replied that the matter would receive consideration from himself and the Hon. J. C. Cobbe, Minister of Customs. The matter came up for discussion at the annual meeting this morning, and the resolution was reaffirmed. Speakers were of the opinion that the import of butter-boxes from overseas would materially benefit the butter industry in New Zealand, and would result in increased production.
