t DRIVER OF MOTOR CAR FINED. HIKURANGI LEVEL CROSSING. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Monday. . Arising indirectly out of the recent Hikurangi level crossing tragedy, a case was heard in the Whangarei- Magistrate's Court to-day, when Steve Kokich was charged with crossing the railway line in front of an engine and with failing to keep a lookout. The incident, which was admitted by defendant, occurred two days after the smash at.McLeod's crossing. A number of cars were drawn up on the side of the road, K'okich said, and after crossing the line he stopped his car and alighted before the train passed.•'• " . , Defendant was convicted and fined f3 and costs* 10/k '
