BROKE SHOP WINDOW.
TE KUITI MAORI CONVICTED. DRANK METHYLATED SPIRITS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE KUITI, this day. In the Magistrate's Court to-day Tommy Williams, a native, was charged with doing wilful damage to a plateglass window, the property of Mr. R. Fenton, jeweller, on Saturday night. He pleaded guilty. The police stated that defendant was mad from the effects of methylated spirit, and that he did not remember the act. Defendant had smashed the window with an axe at midnight when a police constable was standing about ten yards away. The magistrate convicted defendant and ordered him to make good the damage. Williams was prohibited for 12 months.
