* ———— AUCKLAND BRANCH MEETING, MESSAGE TO SIR JOSEPH WARD. A meeting of the Auckland provincial executive of the United Political party was held last evening. Mr. J. Trevithick, chairman, presiding over an attendance of 30 members. It was decided that the following resolution be sent to Sir Joseph Ward: "The Auckland provincial executive of the United Political party deeply regret your resignation as Prime Minister, caused through long-continued illness, but are glad to know you are remaining a member of the Government, retaining Ministerial rank, thus enabling Cabinet to consult you on matters of national importance. Your profound knowledge and wisdom gained by a life-long association in national affairs is an asset of great value to New Zealand and the Empire, and your self-sacrificing action in placing your wide experience at the disposal of the new Government in the interest of our country, will be esteemed as a gracious act by every section of the community." The following resolution was also passed:— "That the Auckland provincial executive of the United Pnliticnl Party sincerely congratulates the Hon. G. W. Forbes, Minister of Lauds, on being elected as the leader of the party, and on being summoned by the GovernorGeneral to form a Ministry, and trusts that he may have a long and successful career as Prime Minister of the Dominion of New Zealand."
