AMUSEMENTS.

ROXY THEATRE. The new programme at the Roxy Teatre to-morrow promises to be firstclass entertainment. It is "Sweetie," with Nancy Carroll and Helen Kane as the leading players, assisted by a strong cast including Stanley Smith, Jack Oakie and William Austin. This picture is announced as "a riotous revel of youth and beauty" with plenty of music, dancing and singing. The comedy element is well sustained by a famous team. This Paramount musical romance of campus life is the first collegiate story accompanied by songs and music to be produced in Hollywood. "Sweetie" through a freak will inherits a boys' college and then things begin to hum. Nancy Carroll, a bundle of charm and L pep, is the girl who causes all the trouble. It is a picture whose gay and youthful cast should keep one in a state of hilarity and happiness for two hours. "Sweetie" is the kind of picture that makes one glad, the kind of picture that will make the audience forget the little trials and tribulations of the day and spend a couple of hours of restful happiness in the theatre. TUDOR THEATRE. Sir James M. Barrie's classic, "The Old Lady Shows Her Medals," retitled for the picture screen as "Seven Days' Leave," is the attraction at the Tudor, Remuera, for this evening. It is the story of a childless London widow, who adopts an orphaned Canadian soldier during the war. Gary Cooper appears in the kilts of the Canadian regiment. Beryl Mercer, a quaint little lady, plays the part of Mrs. Downey, who adopted Cooper. She established this role in the original stage production in London. The supports are also good.

PIANO STUDENTS' ASSOCIATION. The fortnightly meeting of the Auckland Piano Students' Association was held last night, Miss Joyce Parker presiding. An "own selection evening" provided a varied programme. A comprehensive paper on the overture form was read by Miss Elva Carr, who illustrated her remarks with the overture to the "Messiah." Mr. Earl Atkinson, association representative at IYA, favoured the meeting with a short chat on musical matters. Items contributed by members included:—lmpromptu in B'Flat (Schubert), Miss Doris Binns; "The Naids" (Faigeon), Miss Eeita Kennedy; Nocturne (Grieg), Miss C. Martin; Impromptu in Ab (Schubert), Miss E. Blackburn; "The Rope-Dancer" (Wachs), Miss K. Judge; "Danse Macabre," duo form (Saint-Saens), Misses E. Carr and P. Wallace; "L'Elancee" (Wachs), Miss M. Jagusch; Impromptu in A Flat (Schubert), Miss A. Walker.
