SOCIAL GATHERINGS.

A social evening in aid of the funds of "the local Boy Scout group was held in the Coatesville Public Hall on Saturday evening. There was a large attendance, parties coming from as far as Kumeu and Birkenhead. Musical items and recitations were interspersed with the dances and supper was dispensed by the ladies of the committee and helpers. A party of Kovers (senior Scouts) from Auckland were also present and presented two amusing sketches. An enjoyable evening was 'spent on Saturday at the Orient Tearooms, Newmraket, to celebrate the coming of age of Miss Glen Burgess. The hostess, Mrs. Lewis, received her guests. wearing navy blue satin, Miss Glen Burgess wore peach georgette. Among the guests were:— : Mrs. A. Miss W. K. Tugby, Eldon Road, Mt. Eden, was hostess at a bridge afternoon at John Court's yesterday. The tables were beautifully decorated, with silver and cut glass, and bowls of Iceland poppies. On Friday evening a dance was given at "Highdene," the residence of Mrs. A. E. Trayes, in honour of Misses Molly and Marjorie Alison, of Devonport, who leave on a visit to England and the Continent by the Niagara on June 3. The guests were received by the hostess in the lounge, which was beautifuMy decorated with masses of hydrangea blooms and autumn foliage, the same colour scheme being used most effectively in the supper room'and on the spacious porticos where dancing was enjoyed by the guests. A pleasant evening was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Morgan, Huia Road, Otahuhu, last Saturday evening, to celebrate the coming .of age of their only daughter, Esther.
